Dermatologists advise patients with psoriasis regular use of specific emollients to complement drug treatment in order to better control the disease and reduce symptoms. With this idea coincided twenty specialists in the presentation last week of the new range of emollients Relivio, LEO Pharma in the Ocular Microsurgery Institute (IMO) in Barcelona.
Part of the Relivio products range are specific for psoriasis and have the MLE technology, which aims to restore and maintain protective barrier function of the skin. ” It is demonstrated that the restructuring of the horny layer and its barrier function, decrease inflammation component of the skin due to innate immunity” said Miquel Bank, dermatologist Parc Taulí Hospital in Sabadell. Bank emphasized the ability of specific emollients to reduce flaking and increase the elasticity and flexibility of skin.
According to dermatologists gathered in the act, a good emollient must meet certain requirements : to help improve the symptoms of the patient, in this case, relieve itching, flaking and decrease the thickness of the affected part. It is also important to be of easy application , with a smooth texture quickly absorbed and do not contain irritants.
Besides Bank, presentation intervened Esther Mosquera, director of the Business Unit Dermatology LEO Pharma; Celia Marin, the president of the Psoriasis Association Network; Ana Giménez-Arnau, dermatologist and head of the Unit of Hospital del Mar Urticarias; and Jesus Gomez, pharmacist and president of the Spanish Society of Family and Community Pharmacy (Sefac).
The speakers noted that frequencies patients lack information about the disease , skin care and prescription requiring medications. In this sense, attendees had an impact on the role of the pharmacist as well as physicians, dermatologists, patients ‘ associations and information campaigns.
